ART OF NOISE WITH TOM JONES: Kiss (China)
Tom Jones first brought his bloody marvellous version of Prince’s “Kiss” to the nation’s attention yonks ago on Jonathan Ross’ TV show The Last Resort. The good thing about that performance was the way he turned such a brilliant, sparse dance record into a preposterous, disgustingly over-the-top cabaret song. Unfortunately the Art of Noise’s contribution to this recorded version has been to add lots of their famous squiddley-bonk noises which make the whole thing sound a bit clinical and lifeless. It’ll probably still be a hit but it should have been much better. A bit of a bloody shame.
