ROY ORBISON: Wild Hearts (ZTT)
Bit of a shock, what? Once recovered from hearing that man on that label one’s first thought is, did Trevor Horn produce it? Memories of BEF’S ‘Music Of Quality And Distinction’ surface… luckily Trev’s subtle touch is absent and David Briggs and Will Jennings did the knob-twiddling in Nashville. ‘Wild Hearts’ itself isn’t that good… a bit epic, a touch breast-beating, but the voice is still straining, still desperate, still trying to get home. The song is taken from the soundtrack of Insignificance, wherein doubtless it will be devastating.
