Liverpool, Frankie’s second LP, was the first where there didn’t seem much to talk about except the music itself. This inevitably meant some tailing off in journalistic interest, but for anyone who stuck around there was much robust, rumbustious fun to be had. Largely stripped of wacky conceptual embellishments and distracting studio whizz-bangs, Frankie’s newest noise was heavy monster metal. Raging hard and howling loud, they elbowed their pleasure-fixated funk for monolithic rock epics like Warriors Of The Wasteland. Three years on, Frankie are still under pressure to prove their durability, but this time at least, the desperation paid dividends.
