’Frankie relaxed while the session men made the hits’
ROCK group Frankie Goes To Hollywood ‘relaxed’ all the way to the top of the charts, a court heard yesterday.
The band, who earned fortunes with number one hits Relax, and Two Tribes relied on a technical wizard to achieve their remarkable success, a High Court judge was told.
Only lead singer Holly Johnson actually contributed anything… but even his voice had to be brought up to scratch electronically, it was alleged.
What millions of adoring fans were hearing was the expertise of record producer Trevor Horn, using high-tech recording equipment and session musicians, said Andrew Bateson, QC, at the High Court in London.
Mr Horn’s record company Zang Tumb Tuum and music publishers Perfect Songs are seeking injunctions preventing Johnson from going solo.
Johnson, who split with the band as they were preparing their second album, said to have cost £780,000 to produce, is counterclaiming damages.
The case continues.
